Jim Snyder has had the opportunity to live the American Dream right here in Portage, Indiana. In 1989 his father moved his family from Port Huron, Michigan to 720 Heritage Rd. in South Haven. Anyone who knew Jim at a young age knew he was lively, full of energy and never without a smile.
His first business venture was mowing grass in South Haven. Armed with a bicycle, a lawn mower, a gas can and a couple of bungee cords Jim decided to start a mowing business. Before he knew it he was cutting thirty yards and his older brother and little sister were working for him. In the winter time he would shovel snow. Normally starting at 4:00 a.m. because he and his brother were doing dishes at 6:45 a.m. to help pay for their private schooling.
Jim always had a desire to go into the ministry because he loved working with people. That is why he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Theology. Through college Jim worked for a mortgage company in Oakbrook, IL as their marketing director. Because of his success in working with people and the influx of business from Northwest Indiana the company opened an office in Chesterton, IN. Shortly after college, Jim took a management position with another mortgage company and after two years he started his own.
There was no question in Jim’s mind that Portage was the place for his business, First Federal Trust Mortgage Company. In less than a year Jim has gone from one to sixteen employees. Many people questioned Jim when he chose Portage as his location along with such expensive office space. As a business owner Jim has quickly displayed that his energy and his vision have turned into good results. |
